The largest fans and gallons of lemonade are not enough to provide enough relief. If you don’t want to experience this sensation in your own home, you’ll want to make sure your AC is well maintained. The best first step in keeping it well maintained is ensuring it has a clean air filter. What Does The Air Filter Do?
As your air conditioning system takes warm air, cools it and sends it throughout your home via the air ducts, the filter catches airborne dirt and dust particles so that the cool air you get is also clean air. The filter is crucial in reducing allergies, and that’s never more important than during the summer hay fever season. Over time, the filter becomes clogged with dirt and dust, slowing down the circulation of air and making your AC work harder. A clogged filter can make your air conditioner use up to 15% more energy.
Changing the Air Filter
It’s usually a good idea to change the air filter before it gets clogged. We suggest at least every 3 months, but you can keep an eye on it and change it sooner if it becomes dirty. We don’t recommend trying to clean or vacuum the dust out of the air filter in an attempt to extend its life. You may end up damaging it or diminishing its effectiveness, sending dust and allergens into the ducts and through your home.
Changing an air filter isn’t a very difficult task and many homeowners are comfortable doing it themselves. The trick is making sure you are choosing the right one for your system. You can count on the experts at Sharp-Long for the perfect filter for your home. And of course, if you prefer to have one of our technicians change the filter for you, we can have it done for you in no time at all.
Keep the cool air flowing throughout your home by ensuring your AC always has a clean filter. Replace it every three months. If you have any questions or need to order a replacement AC air filter, call First Mate Heating & Cooling at (816) 601-5621.
